Stuff & Things 4/24

>> The day I blogged about J’s new car…my Camry died in the Walmart parking lot.  All I wanted was a bottle of nail polish.  So…that was an $88 bottle of polish (you know–because I had to call a tow truck).  And now we’re down to one car.  The upside?  I finally go to drive the new-to-us car.

>> I am in a food rut.  Every night around dinner time I get that “oh, you need food again?  Didn’t I feed you yesterday” kind of thought.  I think I need to shake things up a bit and do some recipe research.  What are some of your favorite go-to easy meals?

>> It’s too hot to run.  Yeah, I said it.  I’m still doing my best with the C25K thing, but it got hot quick.  I went almost a week without running (the longest I’ve gone since starting the program) because I wasn’t feeling well.  I should have re-done the workout from the week before instead of just moving right along–I stopped and walked in the middle of the 22 minute run.  I’ll have to re-do the workout today.  The good news is I’m only 6 runs away from completing the program!  Is it me or did that go by quick?

>> I’ve pretty much grounded myself from reading until the revisions are done (you know–because the last book I read sent me into this tail spin).  But a couple books I put on hold at the library became available so I had to snatch them up.  So I’m reading Labor Day by Joyce Maynard right now.  I’m enjoying it.  I’ll let you all know what I think when I’ve finished it.

>> Mad Men.  J and I tried this series…?  oh, gosh.  It was a while ago.  Maybe a year ago?  We couldn’t get into it.  Well, for some reason I decided to give it another shot.  Let’s just say I’m already in season 3.  I don’t know how that happened.  I allow myself an episode before bed…which turns into like…4 episodes.  I’m enjoying it!

>> Today’s mani is not an original idea–I’ve seen the multi colored polka dots pretty much everywhere since the beginning of nail art.  But it’s my first attempt at them!  I’m no pro at polka-dots like Bailey or anything–but I’m pleased with how it turned out!

  6. 1. I love those nails so much, I can't even.

    2. I simultaneously loved and hated "Labor Day." I'll be interested to hear what you think about it.

    3. I got two episodes into Mad Men and was bored silly. I'm sucked in by Friday Night Lights now.

    4. My actual easiest go-to meal is gnocchi in cheesy cream sauce. Mix one cup cream and one cup cheese. Doesn't matter what kind. Boil pre-made gnocchi for like 3 minutes. Mix. Done. (Add whatever spices you want, but it doesn't really need it.)

Obviously, I'm a plethora of easy recipes, but this one is the actual easiest.

  7. Your nails are adorable!

Are you looking for a new car?

We're having a book fair at school right now and they always have a display of adult fiction/non-fiction/cookbooks. One of the boys picked up Labor Day, handed it to me, and said, "I think you should get this one. It looks good." lol

  8. This is sooo weird– just before I read this post I was thinking about how sometime this year I want to start watching Mad Men! I've never seen it, but I think I would really enjoy it if I started at the beginning! I also was just talking to someone about starting the C25K program! Once I can find time to remove the 2000 photos from my iphone so I have room for a new app! I'm impressed with your polka dots & that is such a pretty yellow polish!

  14. Love your mani! can it be any more perfect?! Seriously. It looks professionally done.

Also, sorry about your car! I really like a simple grilled chicken breast (seasoned with olive olive, lemon pepper, salt & pepper, and fresh herbs) With a fresh salad that has goat or feta cheese! It so easy and quick, and healthy and yummy! My mom recently tried a new vinaigrette recipe: Black balsamic vinegar, with olive oil, and dark natural maple syrup to cut a bit of the acidity from the vinegar. DELISH!

  16. Shut your whole face!! That mani is AWESOME!!! I love the bright yellow and the multicoloured dots are just fab!! Mega bummer about your car though–that's QUITE the pricey bottle of polish. 😉 And I totally feel you on the dinner thing. My hubs just wants to eat all the time. It's ridiculous. What's so wrong with cereal for supper? Haha! Congrats on getting so close to finishing C25K!!

  17. Love your polka dots!! And it took me a couple tries to get into Mad Men too, but once I did, I was hooked! What a bummer about your car! If only they made magically-healing cars…
