Stuff & Things 1/15

+ J and I watched Mommy’s Night Out the other day sort of on a whim.  It was the dumbest thing ever but absolutely hilarious.  I’m not sure if it was just the mood we were in or what but it was funny!

+ The temperature here was supposed to drop drastically overnight on Tuesday night and we were supposed to wake up to ice and snow on Wednesday.  Now, when I was in school, I remember waking up, getting ready for school then sitting in front of the TV while I waited to go out for the bus hoping and praying they’d cancel school.  And snow on the ground or not, they rarely did.  The county I live in canceled school on Tuesday night at 5PM before a single flake had fallen.  Imagine my surprise when I woke up on Wednesday to nothing.  I don’t get it.

+ This guy knows how to relax.  I could learn a thing or two from him.  (And yes that’s Bailey wearing her xmas sweater.  She has hardly any fur and it’s been cold)!

+ I’ve been listening to the Rick Warren Daily Hope podcast the last few days.  I started waaaaaaaay back at the beginning.  It’s been really good, and if you’re struggling in any way, I highly recommend it.  It’s been bringing me peace daily and I hope it can do the same for you.  If you’re unfamiliar with Rick Warren, he wrote a book several years ago that you might have heard of: The Purpose Driven Life.  I recommend the book, too.

+ I made this at 8PM last night because I felt like it.  Being an adult sucks, but it has its perks.

Now it’s YOUR turn!

  1. Hey now! Easy on the school systems 😉 Some of us benefit from that and let's face it – we need all of those we can scrape up! We've only had two delays this whole winter and it's starting to scare that spring will come without any more of them!!

That Rick Warren podcast sounds like a good one. I read his book years ago. Does he have a voice that's easy to listen to? I'm kind of weird about listening when I can't see the person.

    Happy almost Friday!!

  2. I said the exact same thing about school being cancelled. It is ridiculous in my opinion. Omg. The skillet cookie looks AMAZING! #1 where did you find the awesome skillet? #2 well just YUM!

  3. Oh the skillet cookie. There is nothing better than a skillet cookie.

My school is Missouri would cancel or delay the night before all the time. Actually, my school in PA did that too. Here, no such luck. I work for one of those districts that never delays early and only do it when practically forced. There's like 10 in the "Springs" and we're always last.

I'll look up that podcast right now.

  4. Look at the kitty!

I think cancelling school is a double edged sword. If they cancel and there is nothing, parents are like wtf you messed up my entire day for nothing and they get criticized. And if they don't cancel school and it is awful the next morning or the weather comes in later than expected and kids are stuck at school….there is a huge uproar and they are all why didn't you cancel you are awful…blah blah blah. No one wins in that, ever.

  11. That cookie looks delicious! Your cat is hilarious, and your dog, so cute! Love it. I will have to check out that podcast. Sometimes when I'm doing stuff on the computer I would rather listen to talk radio than music. I hope that you are having a good day so far and that you're staying warm!

  12. There are definitely perks to adulthood and #1 is probably eating treats like that. I grew up in a place that cancelled school for silly reasons like that which was fun, but did not help prepare for the more demanding parts of adulthood! Can we get a picture of the rest of Bailey in her cute sweater?

  13. Cancelling/delaying school ahead of time is ridiculous. I'd like to see any one of them come to Alaska and try to survive school in the winter…it can be zero degrees and 4 feet of snow and school isn't cancelled. I've been here almost 6 years and I haven't seen school cancelled a single time.

  15. A few schools in my area cancelled the night before we were supposed to get a bunch of snow…not mine, of course…and surprise surprise, we didn't get nearly the snow we were supposed to get!

That picture of your cat is hilarious!! He looks so comfy 🙂

  16. Oh my. A cookie in a skillet?? Excuse me while I pick my mouth up off the floor and wipe the drool. And I know exactly how you feel about school never being cancelled. It rarely ever happened in Illinois. When it dropped down to 20 in Florida last week, schools cancelled and all hell broke loose. I don't get it! I've recently gotten into podcasts in the past week and trying to figure out which ones I like so I'll be checking that one out!

  18. That cake! My husband looooves cookie cakes, I should probably attempt that sometime soon 🙂 They do the same thing with canceling or delaying schools the night before here. Definitely didn't have that luxury growing up.
