A Mash Up

1. This Saturday, my program says I’m supposed to run 20 minutes straight without stopping.  Go home, program.  You’re drunk.

2. I think I’m missing the omg ombre’ gene.  Am I the only person on the planet who just…doesn’t get it?  To each their own and all–but this is one trend you won’t ever see me intentionally rocking.  I also believe it’ll be a trend that will have several generations from now going wtf?

3. Re-writes.  A lot of you have been asking how they’re going–and I just…I love you for that.  The fact that you all are so invested in this dream of mine just makes my heart so happy–and it keeps me moving forward on the days I’m tempted to burn the whole thing.  They’re actually going well I think.  It’s hard to judge your own work.  We’re either overly critical (raises hand, totally guilty)-or we can’t see through the veil of our own work and think it’s amazing.  Now, I’ve never been the latter (thanks, Creative Writing Workshops for ruining me)–but I think they’re going well.  In comparison to the original draft, I see improvement.  Let’s just hope the copy editor sees it the same way.

4. Is there really anything better than homemade guac?

5. I miss Scandal.  I refuse to watch it while it’s on live TV because my nerves can’t handle the week long break between episodes.  So I’m just a sitting duck waiting on season 3 to make it to Netflix.  You know, when it’s finished airing.  On the same note–J and I are anxiously waiting for Orange Is The New Black season 2.  I know what we’ll be doing the week of my birthday!  #partyanimals

6. I’m going to be lame and go ahead and post my Nail Files picture today.  I got a lot of compliments on last week’s post–and I wanted to try something similar.  I painted all but my ring fingers with W n’ W megalast in Through The Grapevine.  The ring fingers I painted with Pure Ice Beware (you all know it’s my most favorite silver glitter ever).  Then I mapped out the design with striping tape.  I feel like I should say that again.  I used striping tape.  No way in h-e-double-hockeysticks are these shaky hands capable of painting a straight line.

Then I painted over the glitter and striping tape with one coat of the W n’ W polish.  Immediately, I pulled off the striping tape with tweezers in the opposite order I placed them.  And voila!

In other news–how is it only Thursday?  Has this been The Longest Week Ever for anyone else?

If you know me at all, you know there are just some things I can’t be bothered with. While I love makeup and can truly appreciate the art of a full face, that’s just never been my style. In fact, I was all set to take a management position at Lancôme just out of...

What I'm about to say might shock those of you who have been hanging with me for a long time (thank you, by the way). But since becoming a mom, I hardly do my nails anymore. I'm sad about it, honestly. But the reality is I just want to sleep whenever I have a free...

  1. This IS the longest week ever. I'm not liking it! My hair naturally looks very ombreish. Even when I was little, it's never been one solid color and was always "dirty blonde".

  3. i love your nails!!! if you ever get bored of writing, nail creation/nail art is your 2nd calling. for reals. you can be the next deborah lippman and you can call your line "hodgepodge nails". you're welcome. i'll take free nail polish as payment.

also: i don't know what omg ombre is. had to google that shizz and this 38yr old has no bidness coloring hair like that. kind of like i have no bidness shopping in AE.

  5. Your nails are AWESOME! I've always wanted to do fun patterns on mine, but they chip so easily. How do you make yours last?

  6. I think I have the same Wet and Wild polish but I never use it because it's… gloppy? My other one that is that brand is way better and that color always looks like paint (not nail polish, but paint) on my nails. Which makes me sad. It's a great color! And I don't get ombre, either. But also I don't bother with highlights, or dying my hair, so that probably explains a lot 🙂

  7. Holy schneikies, your nails look amazing!!!!!!! That's what I call talent! Come paint mine!
I am deathly allergic to avacado. Enter frown face 🙁
I like ombre when it's subtle.. Like dark brown on top going into a bit of caramel at the ends. Sandy blonde into sunkissed ends. But dark brown into blonde looks awful. LOL, I went through this phase when I first met Steve, I was light blond on top and practically black underneath! Such a trendsetter…. NOT!

Longest. Week. Ever. (says the girl with tampons up her nose. Yes, the specialist shoved more up there yesterday)

  9. OMGGGG your nails look SWEET!!! COME DO MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scandal drives me crazy… I was actually bummed when I caught up because it meant waiting… I HATE WAITING!
I think some ombre looks good but it's definitely not something I'd do on myself. Some of it looks wayyyyy too harsh… I like the very gradual ones.

  10. I like ombre curtains but not ombre hair so much, unfortunately I was lucky enough to be blessed with natural ombre. The sun makes my hair really light in the summer but when winter rolls around and I'm not in the sun so much my roots grow out dark and wala a natural ombre look. boo

  11. Yep, I'm rocking the ombre look right now. It's called "I used to dye my hair red and can't afford it anymore so now it's growing out to my natural brown."

  12. I am not an Ombre girl either though it can look good on some people when it's a subtle change. You're nails came out awesome. Love it!

  13. I love ombre, but more with the mixed similar tones and not the super harsh dark to light situation. Totally loving those nails too!! I need to get me some striping tape asap!

  18. AH! first this has my favorite color AND striping tape which I am oh so impatiently waiting to receive in the mail. I will definitely be trying out this look! So pretty + glitter = awesomeness!

    First, I don't watch Scandal when it airs either {school is my excuse}
Second, what is the brand of glitter you used here? You mentioned the color….
Third, did you you use tweezers & scissors for the striping tape? This girl could use some advice on that!

    Sincerely, Aishah

I have really subtle ombre going on, and my Mother-in-law totally agrees with you…she just doesn't understand why I would pay money to make it look like my roots are growing out haha. It works just fine in my mind!

And no, there is nothing better than homemade guac.
