Stuff & Things 10/2

>> Limiting dairy.  I’m like a broken record, I know.  I thought it would be impossible.  Cheese! Ice cream! Pizza! How could I cut that out?  But you know what?  In my regular daily life, the only real dairy I ate consistently was cheese, milk in my cereal, and my french vanilla coffee mate creamer.  I quit cereal.  I quit adding cheese to my sandwiches.  And I switched my coffee mate creamer for non-dairy, lactose and soy free almond milk.  I’m not eliminating dairy completely…the fact that I had a mcflurry for dinner the other night proves that point, but just making those changes to my daily life have changed everything for me!  My stomach is so much more reliable, less bloated, and much happier!

>> Writing is…hard.  Half the battle for me, I know, is showing up daily.  But actually pounding out words?  Sheesh.  Some days it’s like pulling teeth.  I know that’s usually how first drafts go, but I miss the fun part.  Huh.  I didn’t realize how much I prefer rewrites to writing!  It’s hard for me to turn the “perfectionist” side of my brain off.  The only point of a first draft is to get the words down.  Why is that so hard sometimes!!

>> I’ve been staying up entirely too late.  I know it’s mostly because I want to see J when he finally gets home, but I think I need to just let that go and go to sleep!

>> Along the same lines, I need to get back into my old schedule.  I think another reason I’ve been staying up so late is because I find that I’m still working at 6 or 7 because hey, my husband isn’t here anyway, might as well keep on keeping on.  But then I can’t turn my brain off, so I need to unwind with a show or a book.  And the next thing I know, it’s after midnight.

>> I was looking through the Harlow & Sage instagram account the other night and sharing different videos/pictures with J.  Now he’s convinced himself that we’re getting a puppy.  We’re not getting a puppy.

>> October is jam packed for us.  September flew right on by, so I just know that in a blink of an eye October will be behind us.  How does that even happen?

Pack Like a Pro: Moving Made Easy

So my friend called me last week in a bit of a panic. Without really meaning to, she and her husband sold their house and bought a new one. I'd tell you the whole story about how someone randomly showed up on their doorstep putting in an offer on their house that...

  1. Yes, get a puppy! And post 1000000000 pictures of it so I don't have to get one and can live vicariously through you! I've been replacing cereal with fruit juice (blended by me- not the store bought stuff) after watching a documentary about all the crap in everything we eat and it's only been a few days but I'm liking it so far! I just throw all the fruit and veggies I can find into my magic bullet and see what happens, haha.
    Happy Thursday!!!!

  3. Oh, you NEED a puppy. Everyone needs a puppy to prove how strong their will and resolve is. It's a character test.

Have you tried coconut milk? That's what we drink. It has a better flavor, I think, than almond milk. The only dairy I eat everyday is maybe cheese. But that's only ever in the form of a quesadilla or pizza. Otherwise, I wouldn't eat cheese at all. Ice cream is maybe once a week. I'm glad whatever you're trying is working for you! That's always a good feeling!

  4. I'm glad you're feeling better w/ less dairy! I know my hubby can't have too much and I find that I do much better w/o it as well. Puppies (dogs) are a lot of work and as much fun as they are, holy cow haha! I sometimes think my dogs are more work than my daughter!

  5. Oooooohhhh get a puppy!!!! 🙂

I think working from home it's hard to be off/on at certain times, even though I have set hours I find myself distracted and bored so I'm either working early OR walking around doing nothing when I should be working.

  6. Time passes so quickly. I often find myself thinking we still have most of 2014 ahead of us… NOPE. It's fading and it's fading quickly.
I have to side with J on this one… you need a puppy. 😉 Puppies are the best.

  7. You should totally get a puppy. I ate ice cream for dinner last night, after the gym. It was perfection.

  8. I think I need to start doing stuff and things – seems like a great way to remind yourself on small personal goals, along with just keeping track of what is going on in your life. Kind of like you said about September. All too often you blink a few times and the day is over, the weekend is here and a new month has begun and you totally pass by the life you are living. Taking note of what you do or what you want to do is great – and I love reading about yours! That Instagram account – PERFECT!

  9. You should try the SoDelicious brand of coconut milk coffee creamer! It's a lot thicker than almond milk, more like an actual coffee creamer, and it comes in flavors like vanilla and coconut. I love the stuff!

I think every husband/man wants a dog. I'm perfectly happy with my clean, calm, quiet cat, thankyouverymuch.

  10. I wish I knew how to slow down the months- you're right, I'm sure October will fly by too! When I cut back on dairy a few months ago I did the same things– cut out the unnecessary cheeses, but allowed myself pizza or ice cream every once in a while.

  12. You need a puppy!!!!!!!!! Dogs are the absolute best (sorry Livvy) and you totally need one! Also, go you and your dairy cutting self. All the holiday creamers are in stores right now and so I dont see me cutting those any time soon but I have made myself a pact that I will quit adding cheese to my chili and maybe even my mexican dishes that I cook. (maybe.)

    Also, get a puppy.
