I remember this case.  This book digs deep inside the murder of Stephanie Bennett: a 23 year old Raleigh resident back in 2002.  

I know the apartments she lived in.

I know the lake and trail that surround her apartment.  I spent a lot of time there as a kid.

I remember seeing the news coverage.  I remember feeling scared that there was a killer loose somewhere in Raleigh.  Things like that just didn’t happen where I lived.

It was a completely random act of violence.  Raleigh has some crime, sure, but it’s definitely not the place where people climb through young women’s window and violently murder them just because.  At least, I didn’t think it was that kind of place…

I’m always interested in the back story of things like this.  I always find myself wondering about the family, the immediate details, everything.  So it was kind of a no brainer that I’d get sucked into the book.

If I can make one suggestion, though, it would be not to read this when you’re living alone.  That was kind of stupid.  If you’re at all interested in the back story of news coverage or how the police handle cases like this, I’d recommend this book.
